DescriptionSpike oat dominated grassland (pinnate leaf of Astragalus pectinatus at center) (20900317129).jpg
Helictotrichon hookeri (spike oats) is one of the dominant grasses in this patch of native grassland that is surrounded by cropfields and pastures, which are dominated by Bromus inermis (smooth brome) and Agropyron cristatum (crested wheatgrass). Agropyron cristatum is somewhat common in this otherwise native grassland. Other grasses in this native grassland include especially Koeleria macrantha and Stipa comata. Hordeum jubatum (foxtail barely) dominates the low flat sites or bottomlands. Common herbs include Astragalus pectinatus (narrowleaf milkvetch), Lygodesmia juncea, Machaeranthera pinnatifida, and Liatrus punctata. Artemisia frigida and Artemisia campestris are also common.
