Note: There is still uncertainty about the correct spelling of this genus (Tropicos, 2021). Stadmania Lam., Tabl. Encycl. 1: t. 312. (1793) is often encountered, but it is nom. inval. nom. nud. The plate 312 has an analysis; such a plate, if were to be published before 1908, can validate name of a monotypic genus or of a species, but does not validate a genus name (see ICN Art. 38.7). Validated by Stadtmannia Lam. ex Poir., Encycl. [J. Lamarck & al.] Suppl. 1. 7: 376 (1806) with the orth. var. Stadmannia Poir., Tabl. Encycl. 2: 443 (1819). This is an autocorrect as the correct spelling of the honorific is Stadtmann see Jean Frédéric Stadtmann (1762-1807), physician, botanist, plant collector and artist in Madagascar, Mauritius and South Africa.
