Basionym: Physcia adiastola Essl., 1977

Type: (Physcia adiastola) USA. Virginia. Page Co.: ca. 0.5 mi. S of Hazeltop Ridge Overlook at mile 54.9 of Skyline Drive, ca. 3300-3400 ft. elev., Esslinger 4723 (US, holotype; DUKE, herb. Esslinger, isotypes).

Substrate and ecology (Sonoran region:) On bark or rock, or over mosses on rock.

World distribution: North America (primarily eastern) and East Africa.
