Holotype: MUMF 12086.
Paratypes: MUMF 12087–100 (14), 12098–12100 (3 specimens, dissected for osteology).
Type locality: Dutah River at Larong Village, Chandel District, Manipur, India (Chindwin Basin), 24°15’03.87"N, 94°14’58.55"E, 283 m a.s.l.
Etymology: The species is named after the local name of the fish (Anal dialect), ngathanu.
