Note: This circumscription is not upheld by the references and wider sources, which maintain it is a synonym of Rosa carolina subsp. carolina - a species found in North America. In addition, the protologue notes that the plant they described was found in Carolina, USA. It seems that the plant illustrated is an artificial hybrid.
