Talk:Rivulidae
Catalog of Fishes was using Cynolebiidae (based on Cynolebiatidi Hoedeman, 1961) instead of preoccupied Rivulidae (based on Rivulini Myers, 1925), preoccupied by Rivulini Grote, 1895, which are a subfamily (Rivulinae) of moths in the family Erebidae. First noticed by:
- Laan, R. van der, Eschmeyer, W.N. & Fricke, R. 2014. Family-group names of Recent fishes. Zootaxa 3882(1): 1–230. DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.3882.1.1 Reference page.
But acc. to the Code of the ICZN it needs the Commission to make a decision:
Art. 55.3. Homonymy from similar generic names. Homonymy between family-group names may result from similarity but not identity of the names of their type genera. Art. 55.3.1. Such a case involving family-group names must be referred to the Commission for a ruling to remove homonymy unless the senior homonym is a nomen oblitum.
Acc. to Richard van der Laan, is the next available synonym Cynolebiidae Hoedeman 1961 and the name can be used as the valid name for the family.
