Welcome to Wikispecies![edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikispecies! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages you might like to see:

If you have named a taxon, then it is likely that there is (or will be) a Wikispecies page about you, and other pages about your published papers. Please see our advice and guidance for taxon authors.

If you have useful images to contribute to Wikispecies, please upload them at Wikimedia Commons. This is also true for video or audio files containing bird songs, whale vocalization, etc.

Please sign your comments on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your username (if you're logged in) and the date. Please also read the Wikispecies policy What Wikispecies is not. If you need help, ask me on my talk page, or in the Village Pump. Again, welcome! Korg (talk) 11:18, 5 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Dear Korg:
Thanks for the intro! I just created my user page stating the bare truth: I can barely work my way around a computer or the Internet and I struggle to comprehend coding and other esoteric matters of the binary realm. I will be doing small tweaks here and there, mostly on flagellates, which I like a lot. Cheers! Capzeneis (talk) 03:30, 6 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi, Capzeneis, you're welcome! No worries, we'll be here to guide you!
Thank you for the information about the authors being in AlgaeBase. They can indeed be found in the page Trypanosoma evansi, thanks for the pointer. I found this exact page by going to the page for the author Jean-Jules Chauvrat. When I'm on it, in the left column, in the "Tools" section, there is a link called "What links here", that points to a special page that lists all the pages that link to Jean-Jules Chauvrat: Special:WhatLinksHere/Jean-Jules Chauvrat. The taxon name in question is listed there!
(A remark: depending on the visual appearance of the wiki pages defined in your preferences, tab "Appearance" then "Skin", with the "Vector (2022)" skin the link "What links here" can be found in the right column.)
Also, we can simply find that taxon name from the author page: there is a link to the taxon names authored by Chauvrat, under the section "Taxon names authored", that points to the following category: Category:Jean-Jules Chauvrat taxa.
There is also another way to find it by performing a search. In the search box, at the top of the page, if you enter the name "Chauvrat", you'll see a suggestion in bold: it is a page that already exists with that name on Wikispecies. Here, it is in fact a redirection: if you click on it, you'll be redirected to the page Jean-Jules Chauvrat. You'll see that information just below the title of the page, in small text: "(Redirected from Chauvrat)". If you click on the link Chauvrat, you'll go to the page of the redirection. You can edit the page and see the wiki markup used to tell that it is a redirect.
Now, if you perform another search, again with the name "Chauvrat", at the bottom of the drop-down list of search suggestions, there is a link titled "Search for pages containing chauvrat". If you click on it, you'll see in the search results all the pages containing the searched term.
On a side note, performing a search in AlgaeBase with that authority name returns no result. This is because the name is misspelled as "Chauvret": [1]
To learn how to edit pages, there is a good tutorial on Wikipedia: en:Help:Introduction. For the method of editing, choose [[Source editor]], it is using the wiki markup. You can make experiments in the Wikispecies sandbox, or in your own sandbox. Don't be afraid to make mistakes and you'll do great! :-) Kind regards, Korg (talk) 10:48, 6 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Dear Korg:
Thanks for the info. I will be reading the pages the following days since I will be free-ish. I will also submit some feedback regarding the name of the author, if you haven't already done it!
Cheers! Capzeneis (talk) 15:57, 6 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
My pleasure! No, I didn't submit any feedback. Thanks and best wishes! Korg (talk) 16:08, 6 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
