Welcome to Wikispecies!

Hello, and welcome to Wikispecies! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages you might like to see:

If you have named a taxon, then it is likely that there is (or will be) a Wikispecies page about you, and other pages about your published papers. Please see our advice and guidance for taxon authors.

If you have useful images to contribute to Wikispecies, please upload them at Wikimedia Commons. This is also true for video or audio files containing bird songs, whale vocalization, etc.

Please sign your comments on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your username (if you're logged in) and the date. Please also read the Wikispecies policy What Wikispecies is not. If you need help, ask me on my talk page, or in the Village Pump. Again, welcome! Request for vote reg use of BASEPAGENAME[edit]

The previous discussions regarding if we should subst:ing BASEPAGENAME and change all [[BASEPAGENAME]] into [[susbt:BASEPAGENAME]] did not really reach a consensus.

Please vote here on the Village pump!

If you are not sure on your opinion, you can read and join the discussion about the claimed advantages and disadvantages of using BASEPAGENAME

Wikispecies Oversighter[edit]

Wikispecies has no local Oversighter. Since I had the communitys confidence regarding the previous application for Checkusers rights, as per local Oversight policy on META, I hereby apply to get Oversighters user rights, as a request to the Wikispecies community.

Application is located at Requests for Comment.

Please also note that Oversighter actions are logged, but for privacy reasons the logs are only visible to other Oversighters. Because of this, Wikispecies must always have no fewer than two oversighters, for mutual accountability. I don't want to suggest anyone, but hope that someone feel inspired and will step forward and also apply for oversighters rights.

Oversight nomination[edit]

Please refer to Wikispecies:Oversighters/Requests/Koavf for a second Oversight nomination. Note that we must have at least two Oversigthers in order for anyone to have these user rights. All feedback is welcome. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 19:50, 3 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Correction[edit]

Hi! Please do not undo my correcting at Gallinago delicata. As you can see on Help:Name section in case of animals the correct name formatting is name, year not (name, year), so please do not undo it! Thank you! -- BanKris (talk) 17:33, 15 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

So What, read this

In zoology parentheses around both an author name and year and in botany around an author are used only to indicate that the name is a subsequent combination, rather than the original combination used by the describing authority. In these cases, both original and subsequent combinations carry the name of the describing authority, but the original combination is always written without parentheses. Botanical names must include the name of the revising author (with no parentheses) after a new combination with the original author in parenthesis, but this practice is not generally used in zoology.

Zoology: Macracantha arcuata (Fabricius, 1793)
Botany: Clematis alpina (L.) Mill. (1768)
Hi! @BanKris:. Toxoplasma is correct, the species described as Scolopax delicata Ord, 1825, and was recombined to Gallinago delicata (Ord, 1825). In zoology, the parenthesis show that the taxon original genus was changed. Ok Burmeister (talk) 17:50, 15 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism[edit]

Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to vandalize Wikispecies, you may be blocked from editing. -- BanKris (talk) 17:43, 15 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You are the one that do Vandalism. Read this http://avibase.bsc-eoc.org/species.jsp?lang=FR&avibaseid=F5C8516D3B9C7686, can you understand this? I think not and so you should not write here anything.--Toxoplasma II. (talk) 17:49, 15 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The use of BASEPAGENAME is unrecommended[edit]

Please note that per a Village Pump poll result the "magic word" BASEPAGENAME should no longer be used on any of the Wikispecies taxon- or author pages. Thank you. –Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 16:42, 21 December 2017 (UTC).[reply]

Ok, I note this, sorry.--Toxoplasma II. (talk) 16:50, 21 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
{{insource:/BASEPAGENAME}} I think it is a work for a Bot.--Toxoplasma II. (talk) 17:25, 21 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you're right. The matter has been discussed amongst the admins for some time now, but it is not a top priority at the moment. –Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 17:30, 21 December 2017 (UTC).[reply]
It's also important to remember that not all implementations of BASEPAGENAME are bad. This particlar magic word is often automatically used in a good way by bots, templates, MediaWiki modules, and so forth. Those should not be deleted! The only instances of BASEPAGENAME that should be deleted are the ones added by us humans... :-) Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 17:39, 21 December 2017 (UTC).[reply]

Teretistridae[edit]

Thanks for your advise. The reference is correct, see page 316 of Template:Barker et al., 2013 where the author and reference are clearly cited. Now, I did not read the whole book to find the exactly page where Teretistridae is cited.--Hector Bottai (talk) 23:54, 19 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
