Vermilacinia paleoderma Spjut

Nomenclatural comment: Nom. val., type cited by Spjut was stated on p. 166 to be Spjut & Marin 9074 from near San Andrés Ranch, BCN Pacific Coast, which complies with ICBN Art, 37.6, and "holotype" was stated on p.7 to have been deposited in the United States National Herbarium (US). This satisfies Art. 37.7. The correct citation for publication of this species is Vermilacinia paleoderma Spjut, Sida Botanical Miscellany 14: 7, 166. 1996. Distinguished by Spjut by the tubular yellowish green thallus branches, in contrast the two-edged dark green branches of V. laevigata. Common on various rocks along the Pacific Coast in the Vizcaíno Deserts of Baja California. Also on Isla Cedros, Isla San Benito, Isla Guadalupe, Isla San Martín and in the Channel Islands.
