How to make Wikispecies stick out[edit]

One way to work towards making Wikispecies "differ from a generalist encyclopedia" is by expanding the scope to include the Dichotomous Key and Field Guide. See Wikispecies:Village pump#Dichotomous Key and Field Guide. Tuf-Kat 07:47, 26 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Another way to do it, is working with other specialist in nature like geographers, vets, gardeners. i have read the word biology in this site more than Pinus! — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Permafrosted (talkcontribs) 02:34, 14 May 2006.
WikiBooks already covers some of this: Dichotomous Key and Field Guide --Georgeryp 06:07, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rename[edit]

I think it may be a good idea - "Wikispecies:Charter" sounds more appropriate. ---- Anonymous DissidentTalk 07:39, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sample text[edit]

(since the current text isn't a charter at all...)

The WikiSpecies wiki is a space for biologists to organize free knowledge about every species in the world.

Participants should think about how their work should differ from and integrate with that on other Wikimedia projects.

Custom tools should be developed to support sharing knowledge about species, and should be integrated into MediaWiki where possible.

(+bits about multilingualism, other uses of language, coordination with other species projects online...)

But that doesn't describe what Wikispecies is or what it was started to do. Wikispecies is a database of nomenclature and classification, not of "knowledge" in general about species, nor is it only about species. --EncycloPetey (talk) 23:11, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Translation issues[edit]

The shortcut don't need to be translate and the category (Wikispecies:Charter/9) too. - yona b (talk) 12:57, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Missing Special:MyLanguage[edit]

The links in the See also section is missing the Special:MyLanguage function. Could someone fix this when they have got the time? --Sabelöga (talk) 20:12, 30 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Biodiversity Maps[edit]

Given the worldwide biodiversity crisis, I came to Wikispecies looking for native species to my area (and ideally sorted by their endangered status) so I can help grow and take care of plants that are important to my local bioregion. It would be incredible to somehow incorporate OpenStreetMap data to see range maps of species so that users can browse native species. Especially with everyone getting into plant care in quarantine, it would be a great goal to incorporate this project into the Wikispecies charter.— The preceding unsigned comment was added by 198.252.153.28 (talkcontribs) 26 September 2020.
