Talk:Acacia
The species circumscription on the taxon page is highly suspect even if Acacia s.l. was accepted! It is suggested that the page should follow Acacia s.s. with the type species Acacia penninervis, for the following reasons: the controversy around the decision to split the genus has largely run its course in the botanic community; the taxon pages for Acaciella, Mariosousa, Senegalia and Vachellia have been created and populated with species, and papers almost exclusively accept the splits. The consequence of this are as follows; subgenera are largely irrelevant, sections are more applicable, the number of species will be reduced, The Plant List and Tropicos are very poor secondary resources, some currently unresolved species on the page have become "accepted" or are in synonymy, a large number of currently accepted species are in synonymy, the reference sections needs updating, the synonym section will need a revisit and changes may result in some orphan pages, if not done carefully. There could be more. World Wide Wattle is a better secondary resource (IMO) for those interested, although species are now regularly updated. Regards Andyboorman (talk) 11:02, 5 February 2016 (UTC)
The taxon page now follows Acacia s.s. Please note that the
- African Plants Database (version 3.4.0). Acacia. Conservatoire et Jardin botaniques de la Ville de Genève and South African National Biodiversity Institute, Pretoria. Accessed: 2018 Dec. 7. still prefers s.l. Andyboorman (talk) 11:38, 8 December 2018 (UTC)
